EWP work in partnership with ZARA based in a comfortable small hotel beautifully located just outside Moshi in Tanzania details. The ZARA also have a lodge and a camp located conveniently near the Serengeti and Ngorongoro.
Kilimanjaro Trekking - year round details
At 5895m the highest peak in Africa, "Kili" is capped by splendid summit ice fields and, on its south-western flank, dramatic icy precipices are best viewed from the less-used and spectacular Umbwe or Machame routes (not the normal Marangu route). The summit plateau with its maze of ice pinnacles, ice-caves, sulphur fumaroles and the central ash pit are best explored from a camp in the caldera.

We offer a variety of trips. Our most basic are the 7 day Marangu (normal) Route and the 8 day Umbwe or Machame Routes. Both use local guides and include two hotel nights. For those interested in climbing we recommend walking up the Umbwe Route - the most spectacular route up Kilimanjaro which also leads to the icy Southern Glaciers from where mountaineering ascents such as the Heim Glacier or the Western Breach can be attempted. "Kili" (Umbwe Route), Mt Meru & safari - scheduled trip details
Fly by Ethiopian Airlines to Kilimanjaro Airport. Ascend the little visited Mt Meru, 4600m, then climb Kilimanjaro, 5896m, by the remote and beautiful Umbwe Route. A tough trek, day packs only need be carried. The walk to Meru involves walking through game country with an armed ranger. The trip is finished off with a safari to Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater. Dates & Prices

South Face of Mt Kenya
Mount KenyaThis ancient volcano lies astride the equator and rises to a height of 5199m. Its ascent takes one through several distinct vegetation belts. Game-rich rain forests cover the lower slopes; above this the bamboo belt, then park lands lead to the Afro-Alpine moorland zones. Finally out of the screes rise the glaciated summits; below rugged cliffs, tarns of clear water, set amongst meadows and giant groundsel plants, add to the magic of the peak area. The two main summits, Batian and Nelion, are accessible to skilled mountaineers only; the third highest, Point Lenana, can be reached by walkers and provides a superb viewpoint.
We organise year round private walking and climbing trips details.

Mt Kenya and Kilimanjaro details
Fly to Nairobi. The Chogoria Route on Mount Kenya takes us up through natural forest and moorland to walk around the peaks area and ascend Point Lenana. Our ascent of Kilimanjaro is by the Marangu Route. This is a strenuous trip, but as it is fully porter supported only day-packs need be carried. Dates & Prices

Mount Meru
This magnificent volcano and game filled national park lie just west of Kilimanjaro and overlooking the town of Arusha. At 4656m it is the third highest summit in Tanzania. It provides an outstanding training peak for the ascent of Kilimanjaro or for those who wish to combine gameviewing with mountaineering. Details.

Other Regions
For many visitors the most wonderful memories are associated with travel in the bush: open camp fires, sleeping under the clear starry skies. There are many areas in East Africa which offer excellent opportunities for wilderness expeditions.

The Loita Hills and Nguruman Escarpment overlook the Rift Valley. The area provides some of the best game land walking in one of East Africa's few remaining true forested wilderness areas. In the Rift Valley itself, Hell's Gate gorge is famous for its wildlife, magnificent birdlife and roadside climbing. The volcanoes Longonot and Suswa, provide short interesting walks. Suswa is of particular interest with its raft, moat, parasitic cones and unique lava tube caves. Further south, overlooking Lake Natron lies Lengai, the most active of East Africa's volcanoes and a sacred Masaii mountain. It's eruptions seem to follow a seven year cycle. The walk to the summit is tough but the return trip can just be achieved in a day.

The northern semi-deserts are sparsely populated by the colourful Samburu, Rendille and Turkana tribes. The most dramatic of the mountains here is Mount Kulal, situated beside Lake Turkana, 'The Jade Sea'. There is also rock climbing in game parks, snorkelling in Marine parks. Camel treks in northern Kenya . . . explore the remote corners of East Africa with one of our guides . . . enjoy the mountains, deserts and unspoilt bush . . . plan your trip with us now.

Safaris in Northern Tanzania
The hotel staff organise year round safaris for our groups to any of the Tanzanian game parks (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Manyara etc.). Details

Technical Climbing in East Africa
East Africa offers some magnificent climbing in a variety of superb settings. In Tsavo game park you can camp by a river with monkeys swinging above you then climb on a nearby cliff watching herds of elephant grazing below. The rugged, glaciated summits of Mount Kenya provide excellent ice routes such as the Diamond Couloir and rock climbing rivalling Chamonix granite in quality. Climbing on Mt Kenya
