Tailor Made Programmes

Those who would like to travel alone may design for themselves a programme and travel whenever they wish. Some may even venture into the deserts in the summer and experience the Sahara at its most ferocious.

To help you design your trip we have produced a basic set of costs as a guideline. All programmes will be discussed in full before a final price quote will be made. Please note there are few areas in Libya in which you are allowed to travel alone so all our programmes include a guide and full services though this may be negotiated. In some wilder desert areas it is essential to have two vehicles in the event of an emergency or breakdown. A satellite telephone is also carried in all wilder areas. The wilder routes include travelling from Ghadames to either Idri or Ghat, and from Idri or Bergen to Germa.

Per Day Travel Costs:
The costings in the desert are based on the number of vehicles required, a support vehicle must be taken on all trips into wilder areas so the minimum number of vehicles here is two and these can carry up to four visitors. Along more frequented routes it is possible to take only one vehicle, as a rule these can take only two visitors as two staff accompany each group and all fuel, water, camping equipment and kitchen equipment has to be carried also.

The main vehicle costs £190 per day (all-inclusive of food, tentage, local fees) for two visitors. The main vehicle with a support vehicle costs about £315 per day all-inclusive for up to 4 visitors. Five, six or seven visitors will need 3 vehicles whatever the distance and terrain and the cost will be £500 per day all-inclusive.

Tripoli
Hotels in Tripoli vary in cost, £20 per person for a double room, B&B, in a three star hotel is an example.

Leptis Magna or Sabratha
Day trips from Tripoli to Leptis Magna or Sabratha all inclusive of entry fee, private transport, lunch and guide:
1 person £122, 2 people £65 each, 3 or 4 £48 each.

Ghadames:
A two day excursion to Ghadames with a visit to Nalut en-route is possible but involves about 6 to 7 hours driving each way. All inclusive costs are: 1 person £170, 2 people £105 each, 3 or 4 people £85 each, more £80 each.

You can make an outline programme and send it to us for a quote or better telephone us to discuss your programme (+44 (0)1550 721319.

There are regular flights from Tripoli to Sebha and less regular ones to Ghat. These can cut out long road journeys and at present are fairly cheap. One way tickets are available at £30 each. Buses save only very little.

Accomodation along the way is rather limited and even if bookings are made well in advance you may find your place given away! As a result you must be flexible in your plans, the best option often is to camp.

Included in Cost:
All transfers, transport, food and accommodation, internal flights, guides and entry fees to museums etc. Camp equipment, tents, mattress, blanket. Cook and catering equipment.

Not Included:
Visas, tips, international flights (unless requested from UK), personal spending, personal insurance and photography fees in museums etc.
