"The Rev. Heaven built the original bungalow in 1893. Constructed in colonial style, with its veranda facing east, it would not have been unfamiliar to the British living in India, Africa or Australasia. Martin Harman later named it Brambles, as its garden had become something of a jungle. By 1970 the building was derelict. The Landmark Trust replaced the corrugated iron ruin with a pair of cedar villas, deliberately reminiscent of the previous building's colonial style.
