The Fayal Hotel is located amongst gardens, on a hillside overlooking the town of Horta, on Faial Island in the Azores. The hotel provides a fine panorana ovr the town, the bay, harbour and the islands of Pico and Sao Jorge. In 1893 Horta became very important as a relay station on the newly-opened transatlantic telecommunication cable. One of the main telecommunication companies built their offices and accommodation at the site of the present hotel. In 1973 with the ever declining need for the large scale accommodation for the cable company staff the buildings were converted to the Fayal Hotel. Over the years the hotel has been enlarged and considerably improved to its present four star rating. The present hotel has 131 rooms including 6 junior suites. All rooms have air conditioning, bath, shower, hair drier, telephone, cable television and mini bar. There is a panoramic restaurant, bar/snack, lounge/game room, car rental, tennis courts, beauty salon, swimming pool, outdoor cafe, congress and meeting facilities. The health club includes an indoor pool, gym, sauna, Turkish bath and jacuzzi.
