| Flora and Fauna The great variety of climatic zones related to its altitude zones together with areas influenced by the steppes to the north, the Black Sea and the deserts to the east have created conditons for considerable biodiversity in Georgia. Furthermore almost 40% of Georgia is covered by forest much of which has been little affected by human actvity. As a result the country is one of the richest in Europe for the great variety of plants, trees and animals that can be seen. Mammals found include the Persian gazelle, striped hyaena, Caucasian leopard, deer, bear, fox, wolf, lynx, jackal, ibex, chamois, boar and wild sheep. The flora is equally rich with many lower mountain slopes covered in decidious forests. Higher slopes are covered with sub-alpine beechwoods and conifers then rhodedendron, azaleas and a full range of alpine species. | ![]() | |
