This takes the Rongai Route, a relatively quieter, route up Kilimanjaro approaching the summit from the Kenyan side of the mountain. The first day of the trip offer a unique opportunity to visit St Jerome's Homework Club and /or a similar project in the Kibera slum area of Nairobi. This trip is in line with our aims to help charities and organisations working to improve conditions in overseas areas we are associated with by direct help. (See our Responsible Travel Policy). Contributions locally made are also greatly appreciated.

This is a tough walking trip but within the limits of a fit individual used to walking in mountain areas.

Special Programme Outline 21-29 August 2010
Day 1 Sat Arrive in Nairobi. (see flights information below) You will be met on arrival to transfer to the Country Lodge, deposit luggage at the hotel and then visit one or two Schoolchildren for Children project schools in Nairobi.
Day 2 Sun The Riverside bus will meet you outside the Country Lodge at 0725hrs to transfer to Springlands Hotel in Moshi. A late afternoon forest walk; dinner and overnight stay at Springlands Hotel.
Day 3 Mon After breakfast, drive to the Park Gate of the Rongai route. Walk up to camp 1 with an overnight stay.
Day 4 Tues Walk to the Kikelewa Cave, camp overnight.
Day 5 Wed Walk to Mawenzi tarn hut, camp overnight.
Day 6 Thurs Walk to Kibo hut. Camp overnight.
Day 7 Fri Walk to the summit & descend to Horombo Hut, camp overnight
Day 8 Sat Final descent to park gate and return to Springlands Hotel.
Day 9 Sun Transfer to airport for your return flight.

This trip is costed for a group size of four.

Included in the costs:
- All land transport and transfers as per the programme above.
- Park fees & permits.
- Services of guiding staff, porters and cook.
- Full board on trek and at Springlands.
- Tents are provided for the trek with matresses.
- On the mountain campsites warm water is provided for washing.
- B&B in Country Lodge.
- Transfer back to the airport for return flight.

- Flights.
- Personal insurance
- Personal spending and trek equipment
- Visa costs
- Tips (as detailed below)
- Transport and transfers to the projects or extra activities in Nairobi on Day 1

Kenyan Airways provide a good service LHR to Nairobi; please note that the cost varies on the date of travel and date booked. We suggest outbound KQ101 dep LHR 1900 arr NBO 0630; Return KQ6725 dep Kili 19.40 to NBO then KQ102 dep 2359hrs arr LHR 0625 Current cost for these for EWP to obtain – partly changeable with a change fee £590.00. For EWP to book these flights we ask for full payment at the times of obtaining the flights.
