Introduction | Winter Mountaincraft | Rock Climbing | Scrambling | Skye | Summer Mountaincraft | Winter Climbing | Accommodation | Home

The Black Cuillin of Skye offer a unique experience of scrambling and climbing. A traverse of the entire ridge comprises of 10km of scrambling along the ridge with rock climbing sections of up to grade Very Difficult and many abseils. The famous Inaccessible Pinnacle is climbed by its east ridge (Moderate) and descended by abseil down its shorter west ridge. The whole expedition along the ridge takes two days with an overnight bivouac. This necessitates carrying a sleeping bag, spare clothes and waterproofs and sufficient food and water (2 litres), so be prepared for two long tiring days carrying about 10kg in your rucksack. There is also endless rock climbing and scrambling potential based from the valley, either Glen Brittle or Coruisk.

For a traverse of the Black Cuillin Ridge including two days on the ridge, an overnight bivouac, transport from Fort William and all bridge tolls please use the table below.

For personal guiding by the day in the Black Cuillin (e.g. Inaccessible Pinnacle, The Cioch), two or five day rock climbing courses please use the rock climbing table for prices plus an additional flat rate supplement of £70 for transport and bridge tolls from Fort William. An insructor to participant ratio of 1:2 is ideal for rock climbing enabling all grades to be tackled, a ratio of 1:3 is possible but will reduce the number of climbs open to us as feasable objectives.
